Hospital bag for Mum

  • 3 loose pajamas with front opening buttons for easy feeding
  • A light cotton dressing gown if you like to wear this.
  • Loose casual clothes for wearing during the day time
  • A nice going out outfit (some hospitals give you a night out with your partner before check out)
  • Slippers
  • Slip on shoes (your feet may swell)
  • 3 maternity bras
  • 2-3 crop tops – these are useful at night time, as they are more comfortable, and hold breast pads in place
  • Disposable knickers or cheap ‘throw away’ knickers.
  • Breast pads – pigeon brand are a good absorbent disposable brand. Get 1 box, and buy more later if you need them.
  • 2-3 packs of maternity pads
  • toiletries (take what ever you would normally use)
  • Hairdryer – can also be used for drying stitches after a c-section or episiotomy.
  • Nail clippers and file (you may need to trim your nails for breastfeeding)
  • Baby care books – we recommend Baby Love by Robin Barker (very helpful advice).
  • Notepad to record gifts given, thoughts and advise
  • Phone/address book
  • Mobile phone and charger (check if allowed by hospital)
  • Small travel clock – for timing breast feeds & nappy changes
  • Breastfeeding/postnatal vitamins
  • Camera – for taking photos of your new arrival.
  • Video camera

HANDY HINTS:

  • Pack your hospital bag well before you think you will need it.
  • Buy thank you stationary before the baby is born. It won’t be long before you have more important things to do.
