Hospital bag for Mum
- 3 loose pajamas with front opening buttons for easy feeding
- A light cotton dressing gown if you like to wear this.
- Loose casual clothes for wearing during the day time
- A nice going out outfit (some hospitals give you a night out with your partner before check out)
- Slippers
- Slip on shoes (your feet may swell)
- 3 maternity bras
- 2-3 crop tops – these are useful at night time, as they are more comfortable, and hold breast pads in place
- Disposable knickers or cheap ‘throw away’ knickers.
- Breast pads – pigeon brand are a good absorbent disposable brand. Get 1 box, and buy more later if you need them.
- 2-3 packs of maternity pads
- toiletries (take what ever you would normally use)
- Hairdryer – can also be used for drying stitches after a c-section or episiotomy.
- Nail clippers and file (you may need to trim your nails for breastfeeding)
- Baby care books – we recommend Baby Love by Robin Barker (very helpful advice).
- Notepad to record gifts given, thoughts and advise
- Phone/address book
- Mobile phone and charger (check if allowed by hospital)
- Small travel clock – for timing breast feeds & nappy changes
- Breastfeeding/postnatal vitamins
- Camera – for taking photos of your new arrival.
- Video camera
HANDY HINTS:
- Pack your hospital bag well before you think you will need it.
- Buy thank you stationary before the baby is born. It won’t be long before you have more important things to do.
